Tea-mixtures contain toxic substances

Black tea is very popular and is one of the most consumed hot beverages worldwide.

A popular consumer magazine published in the November 2014 issued their findings to the investigated blends of tea. It is confirmed that there are high quality differences between the different types of tea. During Tea analysis, 27 various black teas were tested and 5 tea blends were evaluated as well and classified as “good.”

Among the many poorly rated teas polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, Pyrrolicidinalcaloids and mineral oil components were detected. There were chemical compounds associated with the carcinogenic substance classes found here.

Last year the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) warned against health effects contained in these teas alkaloids.

The cancer causing substances are found in the drying process or on the packaging material in the blends of tea.
